About us

Welcome to the website of International Student Network - Integration Leiden! Sounds complicated, but it’s really not. ISN-I is an organization that aims to give the international student an interesting, exciting, and all-out great time in Leiden. We give you the opportunity to meet other international and Dutch students, get to know Dutch student life, and get a feel for Dutch culture.

In order to reach our objective, we organize numerous activities, excursions, weekends, drinks, parties, and more! Check out the website for the calendar of events. Additionally, we have a mentor program cut out for you, in which an international student is brought in touch with a student that has been studying here for a while. Check the information on the mentor program to find out more.

Johan - President

Hi, my name is Johan, and I’m the current president of ISN-I in Leiden. After I finished my high school in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, I wanted to travel and volunteer around the world, while meeting people of many different countries at the same time. This is why I joined the International non-profit organization ‘Up with People’. After being involved with that organization for two years, of which I worked for them for a year, I started my bachelor degree in International Relations at the Leiden campus of Webster University. Since I missed being active in the world of international students I decided to take the opportunity of becoming a board member of ISN-I.
 
I’m very excited to get to know all of you in the next semester, or even year! You’re going to have an incredible time here, and we see it as our duty to help you achieve this. Please join us in as many of our activities and parties as you can, and you’ll have the time of your life!

Roelant - Treasurer / Vice-President

Hello people from everywhere.  My name is Roelant Okken, I’m 22 years old and I am the treasurer and vice-president this year. I’m living in Leiden for almost four years so I know my way around and apart from taking part in the ISN-I board this year I’m studying law and psychology.
 
So my job for this year is that I will keep an eye on the money and be sure that the money is going to be well spent. In my opinion does it mean that we will not cut on any parties that we organize for you this year. Make sure you add yourself on the facebook group and then we will keep you posted on all the fun things we are going to do.
 
The only thing left to say is that I wish you all a real great and fantastic stay in the Netherlands.

Ruben - Secretary / PR Officer

Ni Haody partners - as we Chinese cowboys say. Apart from observing the more than 5000 years old Chinese culture, my main occupation this year will be to keep you happy and informed, keep the website and facebook group up to date, lots of other stuff you don’t need to know, and mostly I'm going to make sure you come to the parties – that will be kick-assingly awesome, of course :P – to avoid being hated by the other board members.   
 
I’m Ruben - as you can see above - 21 years of age and I like writing annoyingly long sentences - as you saw in the last paragraph. I’ve learned about ISN-I through a friend that brought me to the legendary Wednesday Einstein drink night, ever since which I got hooked, except for last year I spent in Beijing in similar conditions, i.e. being surrounded by hordes of international students, the culture of which I got to know as an extraordinarily tolerant and interesting one.

Loes - Events Officer & Acitivities Officer

Hey everybody! My name is Loes and I will be the Activities Officer of the ISN-I Board of 2010-2011. I’m not alone; I will do this with my friend Niels! Together we’re responsible for all the events this year. And I can tell you: it will be great!
 
I’m 21 years old and besides ISN-I I’m studying Languages and Cultures of China. Moreover I sing in a band, love to dance Salsa and I’m always ready to party. After being an exchange student myself in Beijing last year, I’m looking forward to throw the best activities and parties an exchange student could wish! I’m ready, are you? ;)

Niels - Events Officer & Acitivities Officer

Hi everybody! My name is Niels and together with Loes I’ll be organizing all of the activities and parties for you guys and girls this year. I’m 24 years old and a fourth year student of Latin American Languages and Cultures. Besides studying I love to travel, meet new people, do all kinds of sports and ride my motorbike. I’m also a member of SIFE, an organization dedicated to helping people in developing countries set up their own business.
 
I took a Spanish course in Argentina two years ago, and had a really great time there! Together with the rest of my board I’ll do our very best to make sure you also have an amazing time here in Leiden with all kinds of exciting activities, events and of course parties! I’m looking forward to meeting all of you this year!

Gorana - Mentor Coordinator

Hi everyone. My name is Gorana Nikic and I’m 21 years old. This year I will be the mentor coordinator of the ISN-I board.  I have a passion for traveling, getting to know new cultures and languages. This is also why I will be heading the language exchange program this year. Any questions you might have, please do not hesitate to contact me. Since I’m from Croatia and not a native in the Netherlands either, I know how overwhelming  living in a new country can be.
 
We, the ISN-I board, will do our best to make your stay in Leiden an unforgettable one. Come join us at our parties, city trips and of course our weekly drinks at Einstein.
